Shropshire will resume their NCCA Twenty20 campaign when they head to Norfolk to play in the Super 12s stage this weekend.

Five wins from their eight group games earlier this season saw Shropshire finish as runners-up to Staffordshire in Group One as they secured qualification to the next stage.

They will now travel to Sprowston Cricket Club, just outside Norwich, to face Bedfordshire on Sunday (11am).

The winners of the match will then progress to play Norfolk, the hosts, later in the day.

Whoever wins the second game will book a place as one of the four counties competing at this year’s NCCA T20 Finals Day at Wormsley on August 30.

Tom Fell will captain Shropshire this weekend, just as he did during the T20 group stages earlier in the season when Charlie Home, the county captain, was ruled out through injury.

Home said: “I’ve not been involved in this competition this season, but the lads have done brilliantly up until now, so we will go into Sunday with a lot of confidence and hopefully the team continue the good work from previous games.”

Shropshire have not faced Bedfordshire, this weekend’s first opponents, since the clubs met in a One Day Trophy group game at Shrewsbury’s London Road ground in 2009.

A number of changes

Bedfordshire emerged as winners by 43 runs that day against a Shropshire side captained by James Ralph and including Jack Shantry, who went on to have a long first-class career with Worcestershire.

The Shropshire side selected for this weekend shows a number of changes from the team in action against Cheshire in a drawn NCCA Championship match earlier this week.

Fell, Seb Scott, Joe Stanley and George McCormick remain in the XI, with opportunities handed to a number of other players, including several who have already played in this season’s T20 competition.

Top order batter Andre Bradford, who will also keep wicket, returns along with Connor Marshall, Ravan Chahal, Sam Wisniewski and promising Wellington seamer Ollie Smith.

There will also be first NCCA appearances of the season for Shifnal duo Rahul Kaushal and Jack Twigger.

Home added: “It’s great that Rahul is available after some successful games for Shropshire last season. He played well for Shifnal against Wolverhampton last Saturday, making 71 in the Birmingham League.

“We are also delighted to see Jack back in the Shropshire team for the first time in a while. He’s a genuine all-rounder as he’s a destructive batter, quality fielder and a very skilful bowler.”

Shropshire: Rahul Kaushal (Shifnal), Seb Scott (Shrewsbury), Tom Fell (Shifnal, captain), Andre Bradford (Hallam), Connor Marshall (Sandiacre Town), Jack Twigger (Shifnal), Joe Stanley (Wolverhampton), Ravan Chahal (Worfield), Sam Wisniewski (Wakefield Thornes), Ollie Smith (Wellington), George McCormick (Bowdon).
