Andre Bradford has become the third Shropshire player to be awarded a county cap this year in recognition of his efforts during his four seasons playing for the club.

The consistent batter joined Shropshire ahead of the 2022 season and is close to making 50 appearances for the county in all formats.

He is closing in on 1,500 runs for Shropshire, which includes 13 half-centuries, while he is also renowned as an excellent fielder and has taken more than 30 catches for the club in National Counties competitions.

Yorkshire-based Bradford, who was born in South Africa and is now a UK citizen, plays his club cricket for Hallam in the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League.

He enjoyed a successful season with Shifnal in the Birmingham & District Premier Cricket League last year.

Bradford was presented with his county cap by Ed Home, Shropshire’s head of cricket, before last weekend’s NCCA Trophy final against Dorset at Chester Boughton Hall.

Thoroughly deserving

Shropshire CCC chairman John Hulme said: “Andre is thoroughly deserving of his county cap. We were delighted when he joined us at the start of 2022 season in the face of competition from other counties.

“He has shown great commitment to the cause, proving to be a consistent performer both at the top and in the middle of the batting order.

“He is a particularly well organised player who knows his strengths.

“Being an all-round athlete – he has also played hockey to a very high level – Andre is an outstanding fielder with a fine pair of hands.”

Bradford follows captain Charlie Home and seamer Ben Roberts in being awarded county caps by Shropshire this season.
