Captain Charlie Home wants Shropshire to end the season on a positive note ahead of their final match of the campaign.
Dorset are the visitors to Whitchurch Cricket Club in the NCCA Cluberley Championship, with the three-day game starting on Sunday (11am).
Admission is free to spectators on all three days to enjoy the action in Western Division Two at Heath Road.
The Shropshire side selected shows three changes to the team which drew against Cheshire at Nantwich earlier this month.
Wellington wicketkeeper Morgan Ward and former Derbyshire all-rounder Connor Marshall will both make their Championship debuts for Shropshire, while seamer Ben Roberts has recovered from the injury which meant he missed the Cheshire game.
They come in for the unavailable Ben Lees, Finn Jones – who has been chosen to play in the Super-4s tournament at Loughborough next week – and Will Jenkins.
Of the three players coming into the XI, skipper Home said: “Morgan Ward travelled with us last year as 12th man and this year has done really well for Wellington and Shrewsbury School.
“He was given an opportunity to play for Shropshire in the Twenty20 matches and showed what an exciting young prospect he is in those games, so we are pleased he will now be making his Championship debut.
“Connor Marshall has played in both the 50-over and Twenty20 competitions for us this year. He brings that experience of someone who’s played at the next level and offers us good options with both bat and ball.
“It’s great that he’s keen to play and we are delighted to have him involved for the three days against Dorset.
A big influence
“Ben Roberts has had a very good season for Shifnal and Shropshire in all formats. He’s a fantastic bowler and great character for us, so it was disappointing for him and the side that he wasn’t available for the last game.
“We are really looking forward to having him back as he can have a big influence on the game.”
Home highlighted the achievement of Shrewsbury’s top order batter Jones, who is also part of the Worcestershire Academy, in being called up to represent the Midlands at next week’s prestigious Super-4s tournament.
He said: “Finn has done very well for us when he’s played this season and he deserves his chance in the Super-4s, so we wish him all the best.
“It’s a competition where the best young players in the country come together and play for their respective regions throughout the week at Loughborough.”
Shropshire have won one, drawn one and lost one of their three Championship matches this season. The county are currently second in the Western Division Two table, nine points behjnd leaders Cornwall, who have a game in hand.
Dorset are third in the five-team group, three points behind Shropshire, and also have two games remaining compared to Shropshire’s one.
Home added: “We played Dorset away last year and, looking at their team sheet, they are a similar side this season.
“They beat us last year and we know what a strong side they are, but looking at the XI we have for this game I’m confident that we can change our fortunes around from last year and give them a good game and finish the season on a high.
“Whitchurch as a club always look after us and we are looking forward to going back there.”
