Jack Home became the latest in an ever-growing line of Shropshire cricketers to be called up to play for Worcestershire Rapids when he made his first-team debut for the New Road club this week.
The 18-year-old all-rounder, who has been a regular member of the Shropshire squad in recent seasons, is part of Worcestershire CCC’s Academy and made his 2nd XI debut for the Pears earlier this season.
Jack was called up to play for Worcestershire Rapids in their final T20 group game in this season’s Vitality Blast against Derbyshire Falcons on Thursday evening.
He joined Harry Darley, another Shropshire lad, who was making fourth T20 appearance for the Rapids, in the home side.
Both performed well as Worcestershire lost by five wickets, with the winning runs coming off the final ball of an exciting match.
Jack, who plays his club cricket for Shifnal and captains Shrewsbury School’s 1st XI, took a wicket with just his fifth ball in senior cricket when he removed Derbyshire opener Aneurin Donald.
He ended with figures of 1-33 from four lively overs. He had earlier scored his first run in senior cricket when he took a single off the only ball he faced, the final one of the Worcestershire innings.
Impressed with the ball
Harry, 19, who plays his club cricket for Shrewsbury having previously played for Oswestry, also impressed with the ball as he took 2-26 from his four overs, claiming the wickets of Luis Reece and David Lloyd.
Harry made his debut for Shropshire’s first team in the NCCA Showcase Match against Derbyshire at Shifnal in July 2022.
His first appearance in senior cricket for Worcestershire came in a T20 match against New Zealand last summer.
Shropshire CCC chairman John Hulme said: “Congratulations to Jack on making his first-team debut for Worcestershire Rapids and to Harry for the way he has impressively made the most of his opportunity in recent weeks.
“It’s always a proud moment when young players who have taken their first steps in playing representative cricket with Shropshire receive the chance to play in the professional game.
“Jack and Harry join a long list of talented cricketers to have played for both Shropshire and Worcestershire.
“We hope there will be many more given the close connections between the clubs.”
