Bomere Heath

Seb Scott led a successful chase by Shropshire’s Academy side as they beat Wales National County (North) by three wickets in a 50-over friendly at Bomere Heath Cricket Club.

Bridgnorth batter Scott, who recently played for Shropshire’s first team in the NCCA Championship victory at Wiltshire, hit a run-a-ball 76, which included two sixes and 10 fours.

Other contributions with the bat from Shifnal opener Ollie Parton (31), along with Shrewsbury duo Luke Thornton (28) and Lewis Evans (27), guided Shropshire Academy to 183-7 from 34.5 overs.

Adam De Rycke (2-14) and Jack Parry (2-30) were among the wickets for the visitors.

Wales NC (North) had earlier elected to bat and were bowled out for 182 in the last of their 50 overs on Sunday.

Bowled five tight overs

Ben Beaver top scored with 82 with 116 balls, with nine fours, while Nathaniel Scott added 21.

Skipper Evans, who captains Shrewsbury in the Birmingham League, claimed 3-33 and Newtown’s Griff Davies took 3-39.

Will Jones, who plays his club cricket for Wolverhampton, played his part with 2-33.

There was also some joy with the ball for Whitchurch’s Alex Heath, who bowled five tight overs for 1-7, and Chester Boughton Hall’s George McCormick (1-23) as Shropshire’s Academy side enjoyed victory in their final fixture of the 2024 season.
