Seb Scott top scored for Shropshire in both innings as they were beaten by Dorset at Wimborne in their second NCCA Cluberly Championship match of the season.

Inspired by an impressive nine-wicket haul by slow left-armer Mo Abbas, Dorset emerged winners by an innings and 40 runs to leave Shropshire now looking forward to their next Championship match against Wiltshire, which starts at Bridgnorth on Sunday, August 17.

Both the Shropshire and Dorset teams selected showed a host of changes from the Xls which had faced each other just two weeks earlier in the NCCA Trophy final at Chester Boughton Hall.

Promising Whitchurch seamer Alex Heath and top order batter Will Tarrant, who has played second team cricket for Derbyshire, both made their Shropshire debuts.

Asked to bat first, Shropshire slipped from a promising 89-3 to 123-6 and eventually 130 all out inside 59 overs.

Shrewsbury opener Scott led the way with 32, while Harry Chandler, his opening partner, made 23 and Tarrant added 21.

Abbas inflicted much of the damage by taking 4-19 from 13 overs, while there was also some success with the ball for Connor Smith (3-13) and Ben Jack (2-36).

Followed up his excellent Championship debut

Dorset, in reply, totalled 307-9 from their 90 overs as Shropshire claimed maximum bowling points.

George McCormick followed up his excellent Championship debut against Cheshire at Whitchurch by bowling well again to take 3-42 from 17 overs.

Captain Charlie Home (2-38), Ben Roberts (2-66) and Joe Stanley (2-97) were also among the wickets.

Ed Ellis struck an unbeaten 87 for Dorset, with the hosts also well served with the bat by skipper Luke Webb (42), Joe Carson (39), Ben Rogers (34), Alex Eckland (27) and Ethan Baker (24).

Trailing by 177 runs at the halfway stage, Shropshire were then bowled out for 137 in the 55th over of their second innings as Dorset wrapped up victory inside two days.

Scott hit 33, with Tarrant, who plays for Derbyshire club Ticknall, making 29 and Wem’s Chandler 21.

Abbas completed a fine performance for Dorset by claiming 5-31 from 16.3 overs to give him match figures of 9-50, with Ed Bartlett (2-13) and Smith (2-43) also contributing with the ball.
