Shropshire CCC announce National Counties Cricket Association fixtures for 2024 season

Bridgnorth Cricket Club will host Shropshire’s NCCA Championship match against Wales between August 11-13

Shropshire County Cricket Club’s fixtures for the 2024 season have been released by the National Counties Cricket Association – with venues for the matches, both home and away, also confirmed.

The county’s fixture list includes four three-day NCCA Championship matches, as well as group games in both the NCCA Twenty20 Cup and 50-over NCCA Trophy competition.

There will also be an attractive 50-over Showcase Game against first-class county Yorkshire, at Wellington Cricket Club, on Sunday, July 21.

Shropshire’s competitive season – the county have a T20 friendly against Staffordshire at Whitchurch on Sunday, April 21 – will once again start with T20 fixtures, with a change to the usual format this year.

This season’s T20 competition will see five groups of four teams competing in the group stages instead of four groups featuring five sides.

The group winners, group runners-up and two best third-placed teams will then progress to a new Super 12s stage, scheduled for Sunday, May 19.

Four groups of three teams, with the sides facing each other on the same day, will go head to head before the four table-topping Super 12s counties advance to T20 finals day on Sunday, May 26.

Completing group matches

Shropshire’s opening T20 group matches – with two fixtures to be played on the same day – takes them to the Wormsley Cricket Ground to face Oxfordshire on Sunday, April 28.

The county will host Herefordshire at Oswestry CC on Sunday, May 5, before completing their group matches against Wales at St Asaph CC 24 hours later on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6. This fixture has been moved from Brymbo CC, which was initially announced as the venue.

Shropshire will play Herefordshire, Norfolk, Staffordshire and Suffolk in their NCCA Trophy group games.

Suffolk provide the opposition in the opening group match of the 50-over competition at Shifnal CC on Sunday, June 2.

It’s the first of four Sunday matches in succession, with a trip to Great Witchingham CC to meet Norfolk on June 9, with Herefordshire heading to Whitchurch CC on June 16, ahead of meeting Staffordshire at Moddershall & Oulton CC on June 23.

Shropshire will open their NCCA Championship Western Division Two season with a three-day match against Dorset at St George’s CC between July 7-9.

Away matches in the Championship will be against Wiltshire at South Wilts CC from July 28-30 and Herefordshire at Eastnor from August 18-20, with a home match against Wales at Bridgnorth CC in between from August 11-13.
