Shropshire County Cricket League’s representative side chased well to register a four-wicket win over a Shropshire CCC XI in a 50-over friendly at Wem.
Captained by Shrewsbury skipper Lewis Evans, the Shropshire CCC XI, having elected to bat on a bright Sunday morning in north Shropshire, were bowled out for 198 in the final over of their innings.
Shifnal wicketkeeper Ben Lees, one of three players in the side to have played first team cricket for Shropshire this season, played well as he led the way with 65 from 88 balls, which included five fours.
Bridgnorth’s Seb Scott (28), along with Shrewsbury duo Peter Clark (23) and Dan Walker (22), were the other main contributors.
Quatt’s Scott Furber claimed an exellent 5-33, with Tom Astley, one of three players from host club Wem in the SCCL side, taking 2-35.
An impressive chase
The Shropshire County Cricket League side, in reply, advanced to 202-6 inside 37 overs following an impressive chase.
Quatt opener Oliver Plank top scored with 64, sharing in useful partnerships with Cound’s Craig Heath, unbeaten on 52, and Oswestry’s Josh Darley (33).
Captain Evans took 3-60 and Clark, his London Road team mate, was also among the wickets with 2-38.
Evans and Clark plugged away to stem the tide of runs and made a more experienced SCCL side work hard for runs as they closed in on victory.
But they managed to get the job done with time to spare to win an entertaining game.
