Shropshire Leopards were beaten by five wickets by Cheshire’s Development XI in their latest fixture.

Leopards, the new name this season for the county’s academy/development side, elected to bat in Sunday’s match at Northwich Cricket Club.

After losing two early wickets, Ben Lees and Dan Lloyd put on 60 for the third wicket.

The partnership ended when Wellington’s Lloyd, who top scored with 35, was out and he was soon followed back to the pavilion by Shifnal’s Lees for 24.

Shropshire Leopards were eventually bowled out for 131 in the 37th over, with Andrew Dufty taking 3-18.

Cheshire Development XI, in reply, were reduced to 17-3 and 58-5, but Will Valentine (63no) and O’Shay Reddy (30no) then combined for an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 75 to guide the hosts to 133-5 in the 27th over.

Skipper Luke Thornton, the Shrewsbury all-rounder, claimed 2-17.

There was also a wicket for Cameron Watson and Lewis Evans, as well as a run out.
