Shropshire Leopards will hope it’s third time lucky with the weather as they prepare to play Herefordshire’s Development XI in a 50 overs per side match at Ludlow Cricket Club on Sunday (11am).

The Leopards – the new name for the county’s Academy/Development side this season – had been scheduled to play T20 matches against Ellesmere College and Shrewsbury School earlier this season, but the wet weather meant no play was possible in both fixtures.

Coach Ed Ashlin said: “We’re looking forward to it and hopefully we can have a good competitive game. I’ve spoken to Herefordshire and they’re looking forward to it as well, so it should be a good opportunity for all the players.”

Hosts Ludlow are represented with Joe Williams, who is enjoying another good season, included in the side.

Ashlin added: “Joe’s been very consistent for the last three or four seasons. I know him well as I’ve played against him regularly in the Shropshire League and he’s probably taken at least 40 wickets every season for the last three or four years, so he’s very much earned his opportunity.

“I’ve seen a development in his cricket and he’s working hard on all aspects of his game.

“He’s a quality left-arm spinner and throughly deserves the opportunity. I think it will be a nice one for him on his home ground.”

Shropshire Leopards: Alex Johnson (St George’s), Dan Walker (Shrewsbury), Josh Darley (Oswestry), Matt Lamb (Shifnal), Luke Thornton (Shrewsbury, captain), Oliver Parton (Shifnal), Charlie Walker (Bridgnorth), Ed Prideaux (Shrewsbury), Amar Jassal (Shifnal), George Cheshire (Sentinel), Joe Williams (Ludlow), Alex Selby (Oswestry).
