Shropshire looking forward to facing Scottish champions Grange CC at popular hospitality day

Scottish champions Grange Cricket Club are heading to Wrekin College tomorrow (Thursday) to face Shropshire in two Twenty20 matches at the club’s popular hospitality day.

The well established annual event, sponsored by Pure Telecom, is now into its 13th year.

Grange CC, with a number of Scottish internationals in their squad, are travelling down from Edinburgh to play Shropshire for the first time.

Tomorrow’s event is sold out with nearly 700 guests from the Shropshire business community set to be entertained in a luxury marquee.

Chris Cowdrey, the former Kent and England captain, will be master of ceremonies, with entertainment provided by a comedian and later in the day a live band with The Dirty Rockin Scoundrels playing from 6pm.

Toby Shaw, the Shropshire CCC chairman and event organiser, said: “We are looking forward to another excellent day.

“It’s an event regarded by many as the highlight of the summer for the Shropshire business community.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to network in relaxing surroundings while enjoying some excellent cricket.

“We are delighted that Grange Cricket Club will be joining us for the first time.”

Shropshire include Academy players Connor Davies from Oswestry, Wellington’s Matty Simmonds and Josh White from Shifnal in a 12-man squad.

The day’s opening Twenty20 game between Shropshire and Grange starts at 11am, with a second match to be played in the afternoon.

Spectators are welcome to come along and enjoy the cricket at Wrekin College.
