Andre Bradford and Roman Walker led the batting and bowling averages for Shropshire in all National Counties matches this season – while Joe Stanley made most appearances, playing in all 17 matches across all three formats.
Walker, the former Oswestry seamer, enjoyed an impressive debut season for Shropshire as he claimed 30 wickets from seven matches in all competitions at an average of 14.03.
The top three performers with the ball for the county across all formats also featured Wellington’s Ollie Smith, with 15 wickets from eight matches at 15.40, and Shifnal’s Ben Roberts, with 29 wickets from 14 matches at 19.17.
Bradford, a Shropshire player for the last five seasons, topped the county’s batting averages across all NCCA competitions, scoring 428 runs from nine innings at an average of 85.60, followed by Seb Scott, who totalled 426 runs from 11 innings at 47.33, and Sahal Malvernkar, with 184 runs from six innings at 46.
Walker was the star turn for Shropshire with the ball in the NCCA championship, taking 26 wickets from four matches at an excellent average of 12.58.
That put the ex-Leicestershire and Glamorgan player clear at the top of the overall bowling charts in Western Division Two as Shropshire finished runners-up to Cornwall.
Walker’s best bowling figures, 8-44, came in the first innings against Wales at Bridgnorth, while he followed it up with seven-wicket hauls in the first innings of the next two Championship matches against Cheshire and Dorset.
Team mate George McCormick was tenth in the divisional list for most wickets taken with 10 wickets at 33.90 apiece, while Smith (22.50) and Theo Wylie (24.33) completed Shropshire’s top three in the Championship bowling averages behind Walker.
Shrewsbury’s Scott enjoyed a fine season, hitting 374 runs in the county’s four red-ball matches, including his maiden Shropshire century in the final Championship match of the season against Dorset, at an average of 62.33.
He joined Walker in making it a Shropshire double at the top of the charts in Western Division Two as the division’s highest run scorer.
Most runs scored
Scott was one of five Shropshire players to average more than 30 in the Championship, with the others being Joe Johnson 42.50, Finn Jones 42.25, Ben Lees 37.33 and Harry Chandler 33.75, whose total of 270 Championship runs for the county this season was only bettered by Scott as the Wem batter finished eighth on the list for most runs scored in Western Division Two.
Wicketkeeper Lees was fourth on the Western Division Two list for most dismissals, 12, during a season in which he completed 100 dismissals for Shropshire.
Bradford topped the batting averages for Shropshire in both the NCCA 50-over Trophy and T20 competitions.
Bradford hit 199 runs in the Trophy, averaging 66.33, with Tom Fell second with 177 runs at 44.25, followed by Wylie with 136 runs at 34.
With the ball in the Trophy, Walker topped the county’s averages, with two wickets at 25 in his one appearance in the competition. Then came Ravan Chahal with four wickets at 25.25, and Roberts with six wickets at 29.67.
Bradford also led the way with the bat for Shropshire in the National Counties T20 competition, totalling 229 runs, including three half centuries, at an average of 114.50. Then came Malvernkar and Morgan Ward, averaging 46 and 36 respectively.
Joe Johnson was Shropshire’s leading run scorer in the competition, hitting 244 runs at 34.86 during a season in which he received the opportunity to play for Sussex in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
Roberts led the way with the ball in the T20 competition, taking 16 wickets at 9.69, to finish ahead of Matt Simmonds (11.50) and Ollie Smith (14.31) in the averages.
In terms of appearances, off-spinning all-rounder Stanley played in all 17 of Shropshire’s NCCA matches across all three formats, with former Worcestershire batter Fell clocking up 16 appearances.
