Tom Whitney’s fine century helps Shropshire County Cricket League representative side to victory over a Shropshire CCC XI

Shropshire CCC XI at Wellington

A fine century from Tom Whitney helped the Shropshire County Cricket League representative side to victory over a Shropshire CCC XI in Sunday’s friendly at Wellington’s Orleton Park.

The League team emerged winners by 154 runs, with Quatt opener Whitney playing a starring role.

Whitney struck 106 from 114 balls, including 13 fours, as the League team, captained by Ludlow’s Jason Oakes, totalled 264-6 from their 50 overs.

Whitney put on 87 for the second wicket with Iftikhar Khan (28) and 64 for the fourth wicket with Deon Patel (29), with Hugh Morris (28no) and Jacob Binnersley (23) also keeping the scoreboard ticking over.

The wickets were shared between Ed Prideaux (2-50), Ollie Smith (2-60), George McCormick (1-32) and Luke Thornton (1-49), while Ben Roberts was the most economical of the Shropshire CCC XI bowlers with 27 runs coming from his ten overs.

Impressed with the ball

The Shropshire CCC XI lost wickets regularly throughout their reply as they were eventually dismissed for 110 in the 31st over.

Zane Beattie top scored with 23 while captain Seb Scott and all-rounder Thornton both made 17.

Wem youngster Ralph Davies took 2-6 while Dan Handley claimed 2-19 from nine overs and Alex Heath also impressed with the ball to take 2-21. There was also a wicket apiece for Sunny Singh, Morris and Binnersley.
