Luke Thornton, the Allscott Heath all-rounder, will captain Shropshire Academy in Sunday’s friendly against the Shropshire County Cricket League representative side at Whitchurch’s Heath Road ground (11am).
The 50 overs per side contest is the second fixture of the season for Shropshire Academy following an impressive victory over Wales National County (North) at Brymbo in May when off-spinner Gursimrat Singh took seven wickets.
Admission is free for spectators to attend this weekend’s game.
The Shropshire Academy side selected for Sunday includes five players – Harry Chandler, Chad Brandrick, Morgan Ward, Ben Roberts and George McCormick – who have played National Counties first-team cricket for Shropshire this season.
Kidderminster batter Sohaym Maddekar, who has progressed through the Worcestershire pathway and has played regularly for his club in the Birmingham League this season, will make his first appearance for Shropshire Academy.
It’s going to be a busy month for the team as Shropshire Academy head to Ombersley to play another 50-over friendly against Worcester University’s 1st XI next Wednesday.
That will be followed by a match against Cheshire Academy at Bowdon on Wednesday, July 22.
Shropshire have named 12 players who can all play in Sunday’s match, with a nominated non-batter.
