Shropshire’s Academy team will play their second match of the week when they face Herefordshire’s 2nd XI in a 50-over friendly at Wrekin College on Sunday (11am).
The team, coached by Ryan Lockley and James Wojda, were also in action on Tuesday when they played Cheshire’s 2nd XI at Wem, a game which the visitors won by 149 runs.
Having elected to bat, Cheshire totalled 317-7 from their 50 overs. Sebastian Botes led the way with 102 and Rhys Collister added 60.
Naim Luhar, who plays his club cricket for Berkswell in the Birmingham League, took 3-38, while Worfield’s Matt Rees (2-48) and Quatt’s Dan Handley (2-49) were also among the wickets.
Shrewsbury opener Ed Prideaux and Chirk’s Liam Walker both hit 44 as Shropshire, in reply, were bowled out for 168, with Bradley Porter claiming 3-34 for the visitors.
This weekend’s team, captained by Shrewsbury’s Zane Beattie, includes two players, Luke Thornton, the vice-captain, and William Jenkins, who have played first team cricket in NCCA competitions for Shropshire this season.
Shropshire have named 12 players who can all play in Sunday’s match, with a nominated non-batter.
